Homeowners coverage for a changing California market
Review protection for your dwelling, personal property, liability, loss of use, and other structures with a local independent agency.
Core property coverages
A homeowners policy may include Coverage A for the dwelling, Coverage B for other structures, Coverage C for personal property, and Coverage D for additional living expense or loss of use after a covered loss. Limits, valuation methods, deductibles, and exclusions matter.
Liability and medical payments
Personal liability and medical payments coverages may respond to certain injuries or property damage involving other people. Motor vehicles, business activity, intentional acts, animals, pools, and other exposures can require special review.
California-specific gaps
Flood and earthquake are generally not covered by a standard homeowners policy. Wildfire deductibles, roof settlement, water damage, code-upgrade coverage, and defensible-space information should be reviewed with the actual carrier form.
FAIR Plan and supplemental coverage
The California FAIR Plan is intended as a last-resort basic property option when coverage is difficult to obtain. Its standard fire policy has important limitations and may need a separate differences-in-conditions policy for liability, water, theft, and other protection.
